GRADES 4 & 5

At Ar Raheem Academy, we aim to deliver the best education to our students. Thus, from Grade 4 onwards, our students are enrolled at Greenfield Commonwealth Virtual School (GCVS) that administers the flexibility of both live classroom-based lessons and asynchronous personalized classrooms. GCVS are a fully accredited school, that deliver transformative education whilst offering flexibility that meets rigorous state education standards adhering to the state public schools.

To impart quality secular education to our students, we have made the following arrangements:

Grades 4 & 5: GCVS Live

Students attend live online lessons, whilst on-site learning coaches will be helping students in their online classes. Each grade has a dedicated learning coach who will give individual attention to the students. State approved curriculum is used for these grades. Students will attend live classes online.

Quran and Islamic Studies

Learning to read the Qur’ān:

At Ar-Raheem, a great deal of importance is given to the correct recitation of the Qurʿān. The first stage of this is learning how to read the Arabic script. This is done by means of teaching the Arabic alphabets and rules of basic pronunciation using a text known as the Qāʿidah. Every care is taken to explain to the students each stage of the Qāʿidah.

After completion of the Qāʿidah, the students progress to recite the Juz ʿAmma and then progress to begin reciting the Qurʿān. During the last two stages, more complex rules of reciting (tajwīd) are taught. A student completing their studies at Ar-Raheem Academy will attain a very high standard of tajwīd, in shā' Allāh.

Memorization of duʿās and sūrahs:

Students memorize sūrahs from Juz ʿAmma, as well as various duʿās every week. Students are tested at regular intervals by a senior member of staff to check for errors and their progress is tracked throughout the year. The emphasis is on quality of recitation rather than quantity.

The curriculum we use also has an app which parents can use to help their children memorize at home.

Islamic Studies:

Our aim is develop our students into upright and knowledgeable Muslims who will be a source of benefit to themselves, families and the wider community. In addition, through our teachings we ensure children are taught to respect and have tolerance towards other people, religions, and beliefs, as well as respecting the rule of law. We encourage pupils to take an active part in the wider community and society.

In this subject, many important aspects of Islam are taught, such as:

  • Fiqh (the rules related practices we follow in Islam)

  • Aqīdah (Islamic beliefs)

  • Sīrah (the biography of the Prophet Muḥammad S.A.W)

  • Islamic history (spanning the lives of all the previous Prophets as well as major events of importance).

  • Ādāb (Islamic manners and etiquette essential to a moral and rewarding life)

These topics are not only taught to cover classical knowledge but their contemporary applications and implications are explored and explained in detail. This makes the study very relevant to our students in their everyday lives.
